This course was designed to provide gymnastics professionals with a knowledge base of key principles and proven coaching techniques used in gymnastics today. The topics of safety and risk management, communication, athlete development and techniques for teaching gymnastics skills are included in this comprehensive introductory course. Each unit contains a Coaches Clinic with common terminology as well as video demonstrations of beginning recreational skills and progressions for all the gymnastics disciplines. Instructors new to the sport of gymnastics will find this course provides a valuable foundation on which to build their education. Experienced professionals can use this course as a self-assessment to fine-tune their own skills and coaching philosophy as well as align with industry best practices.
The primary goal of this course is to increase safety awareness and educate regarding injury prevention. The course has been designed for a variety of audiences – gymnastics coaches, teachers, instructors, club owners, meet directors, judges, athletes and others. The course addresses the two basic areas of risk in gymnastics – risk of injury and risk of a lawsuit. Education, preparation, and vigilance are the primary tools gymnastics professionals need to deal with risk and uncertainty in the sport of gymnastics.
This course provides basic first aid information for all gymnastics professionals. It covers injury prevention, common types of gymnastics injuries and risks and the symptoms and treatment of those injuries.
Part one of a two part series. This course covers young child development theory in the context of gymnastics movement education. Course topics include teaching philosophy, stages of child development, characteristics of a good teacher, class management, safety considerations, skill deconstruction, lesson planning, and program assessment. This course will help instructors better understand their students and better prepare, organize, and run safe and successful preschool classes. It provides a foundation of knowledge for all preschool educators.
